Quagga Blocks
Rechte: Ladina Hug, FHNW HGK Basel
Zeitraum: 2025 - 2025
The goal was to use the incredibly large biomass of the invasive quagga mussel. This led to the creation of Quagga Blocks, paving stones whose binding agent is made entirely from quagga mussels. Unlike Portland cement, the lime is burned at lower temperatures, as in Roman concrete. This saves energy and CO₂. The shape was inspired by the outline of the shell, reflecting the overall topic.
