«Design in / for Government» Symposium

Design for government is a rising topic.

Designers no longer exclusively design products, services or digital scenarios. They are concerned with the contexts in which interactions occur, including the organisation of society. One field that comes into view is public administration. It forms the interface between politics and society, which must be designed and continuously redesigned.

The topic of design in/for government has been receiving attention for several years. Design thinking is part of the administration, participation with citizens is being strengthened, and the role of design in the aftermath of the pandemic is being questioned. Where does Switzerland stand in making public administration services more accessible, efficient and public-friendly? What international examples can we learn from? What role does digitalisation play, and how can it be integrated into existing processes? – The conference Design in/for government, organised by the Swiss Design Association on September 8th explored these questions and brought 140 interested people to Zurich.

A big shoutout to all of the amazing speakers at the symposium: Prof. Sabine Junginger, PhD, Stefano Vannotti, Raphael Rogenmoser, Anna Schindler, Andreas Amsler, Ivo Nicholas Scherrer, Mikael Sorknaes, Annie Marrs, Meret Wacker, Daniel Hunziker! And thank you, Lisa Lang, for the great moderation.

The Symposium was part of the Zurich Design Weeks. Supported by Bundesamt für Kultur BAK and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.
