Prendo is a project that looks to redesign the common household hairdryer in a more compact and inviting form for repairability. Small household appliances accounted for about 32% of the total volume of e-waste generated in 2021 (Global E-Waste Monitor), with filter clogging, fried cords and overheating being the main issues particularly for hairdryers. The low cost of replacement compared to repair means that I had to redesign the hairdryer to be appealing and friendly to open and repair. As to the opening up of Prendo, I wanted to clearly indicate where each component goes, inviting the user to be comfortable with the eventual replacement of parts, the most common issue being that the wire gets torn. The goal was to create a form that can be opened and sealed without the need of a screwdriver. The natural shape of this hairdryer allows for easy holding and creates less stress on the arm.
